Electric shepherds - use and advice

Electric herders are an effective and economical way to fence pastures, protect crops from wild animals and control livestock movement. In this article, we will tell you how they work and how to use them properly. How does an electric shepherd work? An electric shepherd generates short high-voltage pulses that are transmitted through a wire or rope. When the animal touches the fence, it feels an unpleasant but harmless electrical impulse and moves away. This is a psychological barrier system — animals quickly learn to avoid the fence. Which electric shepherd to choose? Electric shepherds are divided according to the power source: - Mesh (230V) — intended for permanent fences near the power grid. The most powerful and reliable. - Rechargeable (12V) — suitable for remote pastures without electricity. Can work for weeks without recharging. - Battery-powered (9V) — compact, light, ideal for temporary fences and small areas. - Solar energy - an ecological solution with a solar panel, suitable for remote areas. Fence installation tips 1. Poles are placed every 8-10 meters in straight sections, more densely in bends. 2. The wire or tape must be properly tensioned — the fence will not work effectively if it is too loose. 3. Be sure to ground the system — poor grounding is the most common cause of malfunctions. Use at least 3 ground rods. 4. Mow under the fence regularly — grass and plants touching the wire reduce the effectiveness of the fence. 5. Check the voltage with a tester — the fence should read at least 3000V for efficient operation. Safety rules - Always use the warning signs on the electric fence. - Do not connect several shepherds to one fence. - Do not use barbed wire with an electric shepherd. - Always switch off the shepherd before carrying out any repairs. An electric shepherd is a simple but effective tool for every farmer. Properly installed and maintained, it will last for many years.
